The media and the royal wedding

Today's newspapers have followed up on yesterday's 'souvenir editions' with further coverage and speculation about next year's royal wedding. Some (Telegraph, Mail and Sun) are genuinely happy about the news. Others (Mirror and even the i) perhaps are grudgingly giving their readers what they want. A couple (Independent and Guardian) have bucked the trend and continue with their sneering republicanism.

One wonders what this week's newspaper circulation and news programme audience figures will show. The vast majority of people I have spoken to are happy about the news and looking forward to next year's wedding - particularly if a Bank Holiday is involved. If there has been a spike in circulation expect newspaper editors to be looking forward to next year even more than most.
