Labour's media team must do better if they are to turn things around

Something that may well be missed this evening is quite a strong story briefed by the Labour leadership earlier today. The news that Nick Brown has been asked to step aside by Ed Miliband was pitched to illustrate that the new Labour leader was a strong leader with control over his troops.

The way this has been briefed in such a botched way illustrates that there is still quite a hangover to overcome from Gordon Brown's days as leader. It seems extraordinary that this should appear mid afternoon only an hour and a half before the announcement was made about David Miliband. This could have been a great story to lead the news through most of today but its timing meant it led on a few newspaper websites for only minutes. This simply would not have happened under Alistair Campbell.

If Labour are to turn around the current narrative about them their media team have to do better than this.

  1. I am hoping they don't turn it around... the longer they're out of government the better.
