BBC send 50 staff to cover Chilean mine rescue

The Press Gazette has the details here. This is a common problem with the BBC - they all believe that the programme they work on is the 'flagship' for the network. When I worked for the Conservative Party I would often have to field bids for spokespeople from 3 or 4 different programmes, some going out at the same time.

The BBC does create some amazing programmes and a few are appointment to view/listen. However, pop into the Sky studios at Millbank or Osterley and they are supplying news in a far more efficient way. If the BBC is to make the savings demanded of them, while at the same time keeping the quality of its output, cutting down on ridiculous spending like that witnessed today would be a good place to start.
